Are my headshots tax deductible?
This is a question that I get once in a while.
I’m not an accountant. However if you own a business or are self-employed you are able to deduct expenses. That is, any reasonable money you spend to promote your business is a business expense.
Headshots would be something that would be used on your company website. You would also use it on business cards, marketing materials and for promotion. It would fall under advertising.
There are some rules that I see on the CRA website that say certain expenses depend. But again it seems to me that if you’re in sales a headshot would be a business expense. Sales people, chiropractors and lawyers all benefit from personal promotion.
My disclaimer…. always check with your accountant or CRA directly.
Canada Revenue Agency’s website will explain. expenses that contribute to doing business can be deducted against your income.
