Does my headshot really matter?
People probably don’t wonder much about the difference between using a professional or amateur when having headshot photos done. Does it really matter?
The photo you use for your social media profile is your personal brand. It’s the picture people associate you with. Subconsciously that image says a lot about you. If you’re trying to sell your services you’ll want to look like you know what you’re doing. If you’re looking for a new job you want to set the right first impression. If you’re trying to find more clients for your business you’ll want to look like an authority.
After Manon had a new headshot taken I thought I’d check out what she was currently using on Linkedin. Now she is a beautiful woman… so almost any photo of her will be a nice one. That’s all the more reason for her to care about what her headshot says about her, isn’t it?
I am certain you can see the difference between these two images.
One says confidence, approachability, and professionalism. The other doesn’t quite do that in my mind. It says hurry up, I don’t like having my picture taken.
With her permission, I asked her where that first image came from. Turns out there’s someone at her work who does this. To be fair I’m guessing the first photo is her ID badge. Fair enough, but don’t use that for your Linkedin profile headshot. We sometimes just put something in the picture profile box because the site asks for it. A good headshot is too important to NOT spend the time and money on something that makes you stand out. When I am working with you I will spend a fair bit of time throughout the process listening to what it is you do. Who you work with. What is your role? Who your clients are and what you want them to think. From there we won’t quit until we get something that will deliver that goal.
When I do your business portrait or headshot I guarantee you’ll leave feeling like this was worth it. Contact me here. We’ll get a great headshot of you that will show you used a professional and care about what message you send out there.
