The short answer about how long your headshot session will take with me is – about an hour.
For individual headshot sessions, as opposed to team shoots on location, we need about an hour. This is my experience from completing over 500 headshots over the past few years. To learn more how long your headshot session will take keep reading
When we first meet we will chat a little about what you need. I want to understand what your headshot is going to be used for. That is what is your motivation for having a professional headshot of yourself. This will help me to suggest what to wear, and how I will pose you. I will want to make sure that the way I ‘shoot’ is what you’re expecting. It’s also a nice chance to hear about what you’re up to. Believe it or not this gives me ideas on how you will look your best.
Most people are using their headshot for their website or a social media profile. Sometimes I am photographing actors. Often it is business people or people who are looking to start a business. Sometimes the headshot is for a dating site. You can imagine those are all different goals that I have to know about first. The first few minutes are important.
We will shoot for about thirty minutes. I should mention that I only book a morning and an afternoon/evening session. Two per day is my max. So we won’t be under the gun for time. I make sure that we’re not rushed. So thirty minutes is usually what happens.
We’ll shoot on different backgrounds with different clothing choices if you bring them. I encourage you to bring different clothing choices.
As we go along you’ll be able to see your images on my computer screen. This is part of the process that will help you with posing. Honestly, you don’t know it yet but you will love it. I promise.
When we feel that we have the look or the shot (s) we need we’ll through them together. Through the process of elimination we’ll decide on what images you would like. You can decide on one (I have one headshot image I use for everything) or multiple looks for you to use in different situations.
All in from hello to take care is about one to 1.5 hours. More if you want, sometimes less if we’re quick.
