What about make up for my headshot session?
Women clients often ask me what about makeup?
Do I need it? How should I prepare?
The short answer is you don’t need a lot of makeup. My equipment is designed to make everyone look good as yourself. In most cases you’ll be surprised at how beautiful you’ll look without extra makeup.
If you are doing your own makeup and are looking for more here are some extra tips.
- Don’t use heavy eye shadows or liners. These don’t shoot well in headshots.
- If you use foundation try not to use powders which can give a caked-on look. A liquid foundation that leaves your skin refreshed looking would be good.
- I recommend you should feel comfortable bringing your makeup supplies. These will be helpful for touch ups as we go through our session.
- The most important thing to do is make sure that you look like yourself. We don’t want to make your headshot look different than you do most times.
- One consideration if you are a lite makeup user is bringing a lip balm or lipstick with you. Often with the lighting lips can look dried out. This would apply for men as well and I guess I should say that typically men do not look good in make up.
Sometimes a professional makeup artist can help.
For an extra fee I do have the services of a professional makeup artist. She’s worked for over twenty years on television and professional photography shoots. She knows how to apply just the right amount of makeup to work with a photographer’s lighting. She’s available if you like as long as I know in advance.
If you have questions I’m happy to help.
Hair styling and makeup services cost $150 on top of your session fees.
