From an Ottawa Headshot Photographer’s Side of the camera.
As an Ottawa headshot photographer, I noticed something early on:
No one ever walks into my studio space saying:
“This is my lucky day. I look amazing.”
“I can’t believe how great my skin looks today.”
“I’m so excited to have my photo taken.”
“I bought this outfit and I know these headshots are going to look incredible.”
“I’m in the best shape of my life. This will be easy.”
“I absolutely love being in front of the camera.”
Honestly? Nobody says those things.
Most people arrive feeling nervous, uncomfortable, or convinced they’re simply “not photogenic.”
And that’s completely normal.
The interesting thing is that almost every single person who steps in front of my camera ends up saying the same thing afterward:
“That was actually way easier than I expected.”
That’s because a great headshot is not about being naturally photogenic.
It’s about coaching, lighting, expression, posture, and helping people feel comfortable enough to look like themselves on a really good day.
Anyone can take a technically good photograph.
But a professional headshot should do more than just look sharp.
A great headshot should communicate confidence, approachability, professionalism, and personality in a fraction of a second.
That’s why being a professional headshot photographer is not just about the camera equipment or lighting setup. Those things matter, of course — but what matters more is helping people relax and guiding them through the process naturally.
That’s where the real difference comes from.
Over the years, I’ve photographed thousands of professionals as a headshot photographer in Ottawa for LinkedIn profiles, company websites, business marketing, and social media. Almost all of them started by saying some version of:
“I hate having my photo taken.”
And almost all of them leave surprised by how painless — and even enjoyable — the experience was.
That’s honestly one of the reasons I love being a headshot photographer.
I specialize exclusively in professional headshots in Ottawa, working with individuals, business owners, and companies who want their online presence to reflect them professionally and authentically.
If you’ve been putting off getting a headshot because you don’t feel photogenic, you’re definitely not alone.
You just probably haven’t worked with the right photographer yet.
